NATIONAL TEAM (16-21 YRS) CAME TO THE AREA TO PLAY.  INSTEAD OF AN ALL-STAR TEAM, IT WAS DECIDED THAT TORRINGTON CONNIE MACK WOULD PLAY THEM SINCE WE HAD A SOLID TEAM.  WE ALMOST GOT THE JOB DONE IN FRONT OF A CROWD OF 500+ .  IT WAS A GREAT CULTURAL EVENT FOR THE TORRINGTON BALL PLAYERS
THE YEAR WAS 2003.  TEAM RECORD WAS 13-10.  JASON HAMEL AND CRAIG LOVELY ARE STILL AROUND TOWN.

THE YEAR WAS 2003.  MIKE WEYMOUTH LED THE TEAM IN HITTING WITH A .429 AVERAGE AND 15 RBI'S.  CRAIG LOVELY LED THE TEAM IN PITCHING WITH A 6-2 RECORD

THE YEAR WAS 2005.  TEAM RECORD WAS 23-7 AND THE TEAM BATTING AVERAGE WAS A PHENOMENAL .330, BUT WE LOST THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TO DANBURY.  NEVER THE LESS, THIS TEAM WAS VERY TALENTED AND ONE OF THOSE SPECIAL TEAMS THAT COMES AROUND EVERY FEW YEARS, BUT THIS LEAGUE IS GETTING SO COMPETITIVE AND TO WIN, EVERYTHING HAS TO GO JUST RIGHT.  LANDON GARDELLA TOOK CONGRATS FROM HIS TEAM MATES, BEN BARATKO ON THE LEFT AND COREY CARPENTER ON THE RIGHT.

THE YEAR WAS 2006.  TEAM RECORD WAS 18-7 AND THE TEAM BATTING AVERAGE WAS AGAIN A PHENOMENAL .324.  SEAN McDONNELL, ALWAYS HUSTLING, WAS NOW IN HIS 3RD YEAR OF A HIGHLY SUCCESSFULL (4) YEAR CAREER. THE LEADING HITTERS WERE STEVE NOLE (.491), BUBBA GREEN (.458) AND DAVE ALEXANDER (.391).  THERE WERE A LOT OF RETURNEES FROM 2005 WITH SOME NEW FACES THAT MADE THIS SOLID AND SPECIALTEAM AS WELL.  WE LOST IN THE LEAGUE'S SEMI-FINAL PLAYOFFS.
THE YEAR WAS 2007.  TEAM RECORD WAS 17-7 AND A TEAM BATTING AVERAGE OF A RESPECTFULL .297 THAT INCLUDED A RECORD 10 HOME RUNS.  THE LEADING HITTERS WERE JASON CARMIGNANI (.456) AND DAVE ALEXANDER (.437) WHO FINISHED HIS 4TH VERY SUCCESSFULL YEAR WITH THE TEAM.  JASON CARMIGNANI WATCHES THE WINNING HIT ALONG WITH CHEERING TEAM MATES, IAN PIERCE AND THE BROTHERS COLON, JERRY COLON AND CHRIS COLON.  AT THIS POINT, IT WAS ON TO THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (AGAIN)
THE ALWAYS HUSTLING AND HARD WORKING SEAN McDONNELL EARNING HIS REPUTATION AS THE PLAYER WITH THE DIRTIEST UNIFORM AFTER EVERY GAME.

THE YEAR WAS 2009.  HE TEAMS OVERALL RECORD WAS 14-4 AND TEAM BATTING AVERAGE WAS  A VERY COMFORTABLE .312
WHILE WE MAY HAVE LOST OUR FIRST PLAYOFF GAME 8-5 AND IT ENDED OUR SEASON, THIS RUNNER SAFE CALL DID NOT HELP OUR CAUSE.  SLIDING INTO AUSTIN POUCHER'S GLOVE BEFORE REACHING THE PLATE
SHOULD NOT BE THAT HARD TO MAKE THE RIGHT CALL WITH AN EXPERIENCED UMPIRE, WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE.  HAD THIS BEEN AN OUT, THE GAMES OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT.

SECOND BASEMAN, JIMMY FUCHSMAN, MAKES A SOLID EFFORT TO GET THE RUNNER AT SECOND, BUT CALLED SAFE.  ONE OF THE FEW TIMES WE DID NOT MAKE THE PLAY IN THIS 2010 CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON.   INTERESTING ENOUGH,  JIMMY'S BROTHER BILLY, PLAYED ON THE 2007 CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM AT THE SAME POSITION

THIS 2010 TEAM WAS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE SPECIAL TEAMS THAT COMES AROUND EVERY FEW YEARS.  MATURE AND EXPERIENCED, WE DID NOT HAVE A WEAKNESS AT ANY POSITION.  A 21-2 RECORD WITH A PITCHING STAFF OF (4) THAT WAS UNMATCHED BY ANY PREVIOUS TEAM.  A STAFF 1.32 EARNED RUN AVERAGE PROVES OUT THAT POINT AND THEY ALLOWED ONLY 5.8 HITS PER GAME, WHILE STRIKING OUT (6.18) PER GAME AND WALKING (1.2).  THIS WAS A TEAM THAT COULD HIT THE BALL AS THE TEAM BATTING AVERAGE WAS A SCARY .342.  ONE THROUGH TEN, ALL HIT OVER .300 WITH JOE  MATEO LEADING THE HITTING WITH A .419 AVERAGE  LAST YEAR HE HAD THE LOWEST BATTING AVERAGE ON THE TEAM.  IT' WHAT YOU WOULD CALL A "FANTASTIC IMPROVEMENT".  MIKE  LAFRANCE FOLLOWED HIM WITH A .382 AVERAGE THAT INCLUDED A TEAM LEADING (3) HOME RUNS AND TIED WITH JIMMY FUCHSMAN WITH (17) RBI. DEFENSIVELY, WE WERE SUPERB AVERAGING ONLY 1.7 ERRORS PER GAME WITH A RECORD SETTING (1) ERROR IN (4) GAMES AT ONE POINT.  THERE WERE MANY SPECTACULAR DEFENSIVE PLAYS THAT WOULD MAKE A GREAT HIGHLITE REEL.  ALEX MARCONI BEHIND THE PLATE WORKED HIS PITCHERS AND CALLED A GREAT GAME.  THROWING OUT BASE STEALERS AND PICKING OFF RUNNERS, ALEX KEPT THE OPPOSING TEAMS RUNNERS TIED TO THE BASE THEY WERE ON.

OVER THE LAST 28 YEARS, THIS MAY BE THE GREATEST TORRINGTON TEAM TO HAVE PLAYED MACK BASEBALL.  CERTAINLY, THESE PLAYERS ALL FEEL THIS WAY.  WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF GREAT TEAMS, BUT THE STATS MAKES IT'S HARD TO ARGUE AGANST THE FACT THAT THIS ONE DESERVES THE TOP SPOT.

       2010 CHAMPIONS!!

WHILE I USUALLY AVOID ALL-STAR CLASSIFICATIONS,  IT WOULD NOT BE FAIR TO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE PLAYERS WHOSE COMMITTMENT AND OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE SKILLS WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN THE SUCCESS OF THE TORRINGTON TEAM AS WELL AS THE LEAGUE WE PLAY IN
